UV Protection

 

The sun’s ultraviolet rays are composed of UVA and UVB. They cross the clouds, they are reflected by water, sand, grass and snow.

  • UVA rays penetrate deep into the dermis, they are mainly responsible for age spots, aging of the skin and wrinkles.
  • UVB rays penetrate less deeply and are responsible for sunburn, burns, blisters and the majority of skin cancers.

The sun has health benefits, in particular for the synthesis of vitamin D as well as good mood.

It is therefore undesirable to deprive yourself of its benefits. On the other hand, it is recommended to take certain precautions in order to benefit from the sun while protecting yourself at best from UV.

 

 

BABIES AND KIDS: THE MOST FRAGILE

Because of their lack of cellular maturity, the youngest are the most fragile under sun exposure. Their skin does not have the defense and repair capacities against the aggressions of the sun. Repeated sunburn in childhood increases the risk of developing skin cancer.

 

UPF/ SPF 50 + SWIMWEAR

The anti-UV fabric used for the design of swimwear has a very dense mesh allowing very little UV to pass through. We talk about UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) or SPF (Sun Protection Factor) (especially for sun creams) 50+ because the fabric lets in only 1 in 50 UV rays or 2%, blocking 98% of UV rays.

The higher the index, the better the protection.

Take the example of a cotton T-shirt, UPF +10. It lets through 90% of UV rays and almost 100% once wet.

 

 

WHAT ABOUT SUNSCREEN?

Yes to sunscreen! To be used in association with anti-UV clothing, on bodyparts not covered: face, neck, hands, lower body. And every 2 hours !!!

Choose them without oxybenzone and octinoxate, responsible for coral reefs’ bleaching and  death.

 

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF EFFECTIVELY FROM THE SUN?

Of course, the sun offers benefits (for the psyche, for the synthesis of vitamin D ...). It is therefore desirable to take advantage of it while taking certain precautions in order to protect yourself as best as possible from UVs.

  • Stay out of the sun when it is strongest (between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.)
  • Wear sunglasses and a hat to protect yourself.
  • Wear anti-UV clothing covering: Anti-UV full leg Bodysuit for babies, long-sleeved anti-UV top and anti-UV bathing suits for older children.
  • Apply a sunscreen suitable for your skin type and repeat the application every 2 hours.
  • On a daily basis, even in gray weather, consider applying a moisturizer that protects against UVA rays in order to prevent skin aging. In case of exposure, plan a total screen index 50.
